Buddha Nosh

May 6th-9th, 2010
@ The Red Room

Synopsis

It’s ten minutes until closing at the trendy Pan Asian restaurant, Buddha Nosh. Jean wants a table, a birthday drink, and something slightly spiritual. Her singular experience doubles, however, when she meets Tim, a fellow solo diner. Then, it triples, when she starts hearing a strange, possibly all-knowing, disembodied voice. Instead of just getting tofu, Jean’s served a huge helping of gong banging, romance, and fist fights. Where in this city can a girl seek refuge these days? Buddha Nosh is a comedy about spiritual, social, and emotional independence; and of course, the loneliness, eccentricities, and beautiful possibilities that accompany that freedom.

Finger Paint

August 2009
Part of the FringeNYC 2009
@ The HERE Arts Center

Synopsis

Ryan is moving out of his apartment in the morning. Everything is packed away, except for his greatest work of art.  His entire apartment wall is a canvas of layers and layers of paint, splattered with stories, ideas, and symbols.  The paint is inches thick, but something is still incomplete.  His roommate and collaborator, Ann, won't let him move out until he finishes it - painting the last remaining blank space on the wall.  The only way to figure out what is missing is to truly see what's there already.  Ryan learns no matter how abstract or trivial a stroke of paint may seem at the time, the truth, inevitably, bleeds through.

"This play is messy, carnal, funny, and emotionally complicated."

— NYTheatre.com

"Despite its juvenile title, Finger Paint is a marvelous work of theatrical brio.  Tapping the talents of it's four audacious actors, one whom co-wrote it, the play tackles subjects such as love, sex, and art without sentimentality.  Instead, it uses humor and a suprising depth of feeling as a springboard for its contention that life, like art, is a "series of happy accidents" that's often much better in the abstract."
